Cadogan Guides: Crete - by Dana Facaros, Michael Pauls (paperback,
288 pages, August 2003)
CreteTravel.com
comment: Exceptionally good on background, concise history
sections and good descriptions of places and accommodation. Best used in
conjunction with a more recently published guide if you need current
phone numbers, price and the like. Worthwhile, informative and enjoyable
reading.

Review from Amazon.co.uk:
Excellent guide book for "Off the road"
exploration of Crete
Written by a Greek for the more adventurous traveller wishing to explore
the real mountain Crete using minor roads and dirt track routes suitable
for "off road" motor bikes or jeeps.
This book has inspired me to return to Crete for
further exploration of little visited mountain villages, mountain
plateaux and hard to reach beaches.
CreteTravel.com comment: Amazingly
well-researched and refreshingly outspoken guide to those
off-the-beaten-track (usually via very beaten tracks!) places. Focuses
on travel by motorcycle, but most places can be reached by car or
sometimes, four wheel drive vehicle. Packed to the brim with history,
background information and generally useful travel data. A special and
inspiring book that's truly helpful. |
